Biography 

Kristian Braathen- Kristian has worked as a professional musician for more than seventeen years.  Kristian began his drum studies with Vancouver based teachers Don Reid and Scott Robertson.  He later pursued higher studies in the Music Faculty of Capilano University.  There, Kristian received a Bachelor of Music Degree in 2004.  While at Capilano University, Kristian studied with local jazz drummers Dave Robbins, Craig Scott and Blaine Wikjord.  Kristian also studied with recognized percussionists Ken Moore and Graham Boyle.  During a hiatus from his studies at Capilano University, Kristian performed music on cruise ships for two years and traveled to such destinations as Tahiti and the Caribbean.  As well, Kristian toured extensively in Canada and the United States with the Russell Jackson Band (former bassist with BB King) from 2000 to 2003. While on tour, Kristian shared the stage with such names as renowned jazz saxophonist Donald Harrison (Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Terence Blanchard,) and Matt ‘Guitar’ Murphy (The Blues Brothers.)  In 2005, Kristian had a study intensive with world renowned jazz drummer, Jeff Hamilton (drummer with Oscar Peterson, Diana Krall and many others.)  From 2004 to present, Kristian has been a member of several local bands, both in jazz and mainstream music, and works in many freelancing situations including live performance and studio work.   Kristian also balances his time as a private drum set and mallet percussion teacher.  Presently, Kristian focuses his time with PK3 jazz trio vancouver jazz, coled with Paul Miyai and Karlis Silins.  Kristian continues to be an active member in the Vancouver music industry.
